Businesses worth believing in. People worth backing.

Dream5 Holdings acquires and operates businesses — and partners with the people who built them. One operator. Direct answers. No investment committee.

//01 — The idea

Own what you actually believe in.

I'm not assembling a portfolio for the sake of having one.

Dream5 exists to own businesses I genuinely believe in, and to back people I believe in so that what they're building actually gets built. That belief is the filter every opportunity goes through — before price, before structure, before anything else.

It's also the practical difference between me and a fund. A fund has to deploy capital on a schedule. I don't. I can wait for something worth owning, and I can say no to everything else without explaining myself to a committee.

//02 — Who you'd be dealing with

Adam Bell

Close to twenty years on retail floors and behind retail numbers — across electronics, wine and apparel. Not in a fund, and not in a boardroom.

Twelve of those years were in premium specialty retail, three and a half as general manager of a Calgary retailer where I carried the P&L: buying, margin, inventory, pricing, hiring, training, and the daily work of keeping a floor performing. Three years before that in electronics retail and management — a different product, a different customer, the same fundamentals. Earlier still, apparel.

That range is the point. Categories change. Margin, inventory turns, staffing, and understanding why a customer walked out empty-handed do not. I've had to learn an unfamiliar product category from the ground up more than once, and I know honestly how long it takes.

I also hold the WSET Level 4 Diploma, completed with one of the highest marks in my cohort — years of technical study alongside a full-time management role. I mention it for one reason: it's evidence I go deep on things instead of skimming them.

Dream5 is the vehicle I built to buy and run businesses of my own. If we talk, you're talking to me — the person who'll be responsible for it afterwards.

//03 — What I look for

Specific, so nobody wastes time.

Revenue
$500,000 to $3 million, with a clear picture of how it's actually earned.
Earnings
Profitable, and verifiable from financial statements and filed returns. I'm not looking for a rescue.
Geography
Anywhere in Canada, and internationally for the right business. Outside my own region I need existing management staying on — I'd rather back a team already in place than pretend I can be in two provinces at once.
Situation
Founder-led, with an owner retiring, stepping back, or without a succession plan.
Sectors
Specialty and experiential retail, consumer businesses with a real product, and service businesses with recurring or contracted revenue. I'll look at anything with honest numbers and a reason to exist.
Structure
Asset or share purchase. Seller financing welcome. Co-investment alongside partners where it makes the deal better for everyone.
Process
Confidential throughout, and a straight yes or no within two weeks of seeing real numbers.
//And what I'll pass on
  • Businesses whose value rests on a licence, supply agreement or distribution right that doesn't survive a change of ownership.
  • Turnarounds that need rescue capital before they need an operator.
  • Anything that only works if the founder stays indefinitely.
  • Valuations built on revenue multiples where there are no earnings to multiply.
Most people selling a business they built care where it lands. I'd rather be the buyer who understood that.

//04 — If you're thinking about selling

What you can expect from me.

01

You deal with me

Not an analyst, not an associate. The person evaluating your business is the person who'll be responsible for it.

02

A fast, honest answer

If it isn't a fit, I'll tell you why, quickly. Nobody benefits from a buyer who strings a seller along for six months.

03

Your people matter

Staff and customers are most of what you built. I'm buying a working business, not parts to sell off.

04

Complete discretion

Conversations stay private, whether or not we ever reach a deal. Nothing gets discussed with anyone.

//05 — Under the Dream5 umbrella

Dream5 is a holding company, not an operating brand. Businesses acquired under it keep their own name, their own team and their own identity.

The intention isn't a logo on a wall. It's ownership of a small number of businesses that are worth owning — run by people worth backing, for the long term rather than to a fund's timetable.
